Dorchester's Evelyn Kasl Passes; Services Monday at 11 AM

Evelyn Bessie (Pracheil) Kasl, 93, passed away on January 19, 2026.

Evelyn was born on May 28, 1932, to Frank and Bessie (Vaverka) Pracheil. She was raised on the family farm near Crete, where she attended Star School through the eighth grade.  She attended Crete High School through the ninth grade, leaving school to help on the farm when her father passed away. She later received her high school diploma.

On August 30, 1949, Evelyn was united in marriage to Frank G. Kasl. The couple made their home on a farm just south of Dorchester, where they lived until Frank’s passing on March 25, 1964. They were blessed with four children. After Frank’s death, Evelyn moved with her four children, ranging in age from two to eleven, into Dorchester. During this time, she also raised chickens and ducks and had a huge garden which provided some of her favorite foods.

In 1965, Evelyn began working as a cook at Doane College in Crete. In 1983, she also worked as a cook for Dorchester Public School while continuing her employment at Doane College. She retired from Dorchester Public School in 1999.

Evelyn was known for her strong work ethic and devotion to her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed flowers, cooking, gardening, sewing, and baking countless kolaches and houska. Evelyn was strong in character and instilled those values in her children. She was a very special lady and found great joy in doing things for her family.

When once asked what she would do if she won the lottery, Evelyn replied that she would travel to many places, but never alone. She loved playing pitch, dancing and listening to polka music, hosting holiday meals, and gathering family together for special occasions. Some of her fondest memories were watching her children grow up and attending their sporting events as well as visiting with family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her sister, Pauline Nannen; and her brother, Art Pracheil, in-laws and many family members.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (John) Barnhard and Lori (Mark) Lindgren; her sons, Frank Kasl, Jr., and Eldon (Paula) Kasl; her sister, Wilma Chrastil; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Memorials are in care of the family for future designation.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
