DHS graduate Jeanne Boller has been recognized by the University of Nebraska, according to an NU media release.
Boller, who played basketball for the Lady Huskers, is recognized as the most successful Dorchester athlete to play at the Division I level of college athletics. At 6'3", Boller appeared in 61 games for the Huskers, with 51 starts during her two-year career. As the Huskers' center, she lettered in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, and finished her career at Nebraska with 344 points, 458 rebounds and 17 assists.
As a freshman in 1976-77, Boller averaged 4.4 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game. She shot 40 percent from the field, while connecting making 67 percent of her free throws to help Nebraska to a 21-16 final record. As a sophomore, Boller increased her scoring average to 7.1 points a game while adding a strong 8 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, the Sioux City (Iowa) Journal reports that 2007 DHS graduate Kayla Stehlik is among a dozen volleyball additions who will play this fall at Morningside College. As a 5-10 outside hitter for the Longhorns, Kayla earned honorable mention Class D1 all-state honors.
don't forget that Lance Bobolz lettered as a member of the Huskers football team (86-90).

I can tell you......that team Jeane played on was still the best girls team Dorchester has ever had....Ive watched a lot of ball through the years too.
ReplyDeleteCynical Richard's comment may be true, but the 03-04 Dorchester Girls State Basketball team was also very very good!
ReplyDeleteI'm not old enough to remember the the team jeanne boller played on but when I was in elementary school, the 94 and 95 d.h.s. girls teams were the bomb. They were better than the boys back then. They gotta rank in the top two or three of all time.
ReplyDeleteIve seen all three of those teams play...... Jeanne Boller's 1975-1976 team was the best by far......then the the mid 90s team at # 2.........then the 2004 team at # 3.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the article doesn't finish the story and tell us what happened to Jeanne her Jr and Sr seasons. Was she injured, did she give up the sport to concentrate on academics (remember why they go to college?). Hopefully someone will tell us "the rest of the story".
ReplyDeleteThe girls 03-04 team was pretty good, I think that they got a lot of attention because they went to state. But the 04-05, in my opinion, was a better one than the previous year. No they didn't go to state that year, but they were ranked in top ten for the majority of the season, and right before post season began they were 3rd. They also held a 14-5 record--losing 2 times to E-M, once to McCool and Shickley (who went on to be D-2 state champs) and finally to Pawnee City (ranked 4th in D-1) in Sub-districts. All f the losses with the exception of the E-M losses were also less than 5 or 6 points, so no blowouts. In 03-04 they were 11-12. (Though they also beat the class D-1 state champs). Also keep in mind that the 03-04 season they were class D-2 and enrollment forced them to be a D-1 school for the 04-05 season. Both teams were great with a lot of talented players and a coach (whose first year was actually the 03-04 season).
ReplyDeleteI was also a member of the '75-76 girls basketball team, a classmate of Jeanne's. This was the first year that girls basketball was played in high school. I can remember playing with Jeanne, she was quite a fearful force out there being that she towered over everyone else playing. We had a ball!! Congrats to her for receiving the award from UNL!!!!
