Pieper Selected as Interim Superintendent

The Times has learned that the Dorchester School Board has hired Don Pieper as superintendent for the 2007-08 school year. The move is seen as short-term. Sources tell us that the search for a permanent superintendent will continue. Brian Redinger will serve as K-12 principal for the upcoming school year.

Pieper served as superintendent of Dorchester Public Schools from 1995 until 2005.

Also decided by the Dorchester School Board at last night's meeting was the selection of Doris Broz as the new director of the Dorchester Community Preschool. Broz must yet be certified by Nebraska Health and Human Services and the preschool must be inspected by the State Fire Marshall prior to the start of sessions. Questions concerning the preschool should be directed to Broz at (402) 821-2547.

  1. This makes sense to me. I'm surprised that Mr. Pieper came out of retirement, but this takes a lot of pressure off of the board as they try to pick a superintendent who will be around for years to come. Thank you, Mr. Pieper.

  2. Is there a law that says a school MUST have a Superintendent? What salary is Pieper going to be paid? Couldn't we have just waited until the Principal is ready to step up and take the reins? I understand he is just a few credit hours away from being certified. Waiting for him would have been my choice.

  4. Dorchester is lucky to have Don Pieper to fill in as an Interim Supt. I hope that his expertise is recognized and appreciated by community but particularly by the School Board.

  6. Tell me this isn't just tredding water. I thought we were trying to move forward and look to the future. Mr. Pieper is a fine fellow but hiring someone from the past for one year is not looking to the future.

  9. What don't you understand about the term "interim"? Let me break it down for you ...... it means for the meantime, until someone permanent is hired. Quit trying to spark controversy. That's my job!

  14. A smart move by the school board to bring Mr. Peiper on board for the school year. The school needs Mr. Pieper leadership and wisdom with budget and school. This way the school board will have time to find a supt. that can lead them into the future. Thank you school board for using your head on this matter. Thank you Mr. Pieper for coming out of retirement.
