Dorchester Public School Superintendent Daryl Schrunk on Monday was awarded the 2019 District 2 American Citizenship Award by the Nebraska American Legion.

The award was presented during today's Veterans Day ceremony held at the DHS gymnasium, which featured students greeting area veterans, as well as a solemn performance by both the Longhorn choir and band.

Schrunk was nominated by Dorchester American Legion personnel. As a veteran himself, he is an active in Legion activities.

Among the reasons Schrunk was nominated are:

* Active member in the Dorchester Legion, serving in the color guard, firing squad, and as finance officer.

* Active in several community volunteer groups, including Renew Dorchester.

* Coordinates activities of school with town board and other community leaders.

* Keeps older veterans involved with school activities.

* Has made several public speeches on the importance of service to country.

Our congratulations to Superintendent Schrunk for this impressive honor and recognition by fellow Nebraskans.
