Dorchester's Roth Receives Her Degree From UNL
More than 1,500 students received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in ceremonies Dec. 20-21. Dorchester's Tonya Alice Roth was among those, receiving her bachelor's degree in education and human sciences.
UNL awarded postgraduate degrees on Dec. 20 and baccalaureate degrees on Dec. 21 in ceremonies at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The commencement speakers were Karen Kunc, Willa Cather Professor and professor of art at UNL (postgraduate ceremony), and former Nebraska Gov. and former U.S. $en. Ben Nelson (baccalaureate).

Nice work, Tonya. Every parent reading this should take time this Christmas break to talk about careers and continuing education with their kids. Not every kid needs a four year degree; in fact I think four year programs and the debt that comes with it have hurt many young people and made their lives tougher. We desperately need more skilled labor, from welders and plumbers and electricians and carpenters, to nurses to computer repairmen. SCC in Milford or Lincoln or Beatrice is providing affordable education for kids who are earning three times what I make, and I have two degrees from UNL. Parents, be parents and have this talk with your high schoolers today!
ReplyDeletejust dont let the chancellor of unl or the other master of big academia/education loan complex hear you - theyll crash your little website. ha.
DeleteI agree 100% with the previous post. Congrats, Tonya!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the first listener is a fan of Dave Ramsey, he says the same thing. maybe theres hope for common sense after all.
