Longhorn Boys Go On Win Streak; Take On Osceola Tonight

The Dorchester boys basketball team is batting .500 in the young season, as the 2-2 Longhorns have won
consecutive games.

The win streak started last Friday, as DHS came from behind to beat Bruning-Davenport-Shickley 48-47, despite trailing 41-31 going into the fourth quarter.

Under the guidance of head coach Adrian Allen and  assistant coach Zach Rosenboom, DHS was led by Riley Zahourek, who had 19 points. Kevin Donohoe, who scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, helped spark the rally.  And senior Derek Pohl added another 12.  Corey Bird grabbed 15 rebounds in the game, and Donohoe contributed five steals.

“We fought back. That shows our character,” Allen said. “I’m happy with the effort.”

On Tuesday, the Longhorn boys knocked off Harvard by more than doubling the tally on the Clay County team, 55-25.

The DHS boys and girls travel to Osceola tonight, Dec. 19.

  2. Interesting to hear all the talk about "consolidating." I'm pretty familiar with all the "inside talk" and I'm told that there are no definite plans to consolidate sports, other than football and wrestling with Milford, just continuing to look at options. That's why you have a school board, folks. Those of you who are hellbent against consolidating need to take a lesson from your kids, because when they whine and pout, at least they know who to whine and pout to. If you feel strongly about something, have a grown-up conversation with the school board. Show up to a meeting. Or run for the board yourself. Just because youre busy and pay property taxes doesnt give you the right to be the kind that says, "My way or I'm taking my ball and going home." It doesnt work that way in the real world, as your kiddos will soon find out.

  3. So when the school board lies to you about saying they haven't finalized anything yet and come to find out from other sources that Friend has taken Dorchester off their schedule. What does that tell you about talking to the school board when they can't even tell the truth. So maybe they should grow-up and tell the parents what the heck is going on.

  4. I did contact a school board member who told us that Boys and Girls basketball will be added next year. I thought the board voted to wait a year or two to see how it goes at a November meeting. What changed? Nobody was at the meeting so it was easier to do it. It is hard being misled by the board and then asked to support them. I have heard kids are opting out in mass. I hope I am wrong but if it is true say goodbye to our school. They might have just voted their "friends" out of a job.

  5. I work at the school and news of kids "opting out" is news to me. Please let us all know where they are "opting out" to, please.

  6. I'm watching this little online quarrel from afar, but it sure would be nice if all of you had enough guts to at least sign your name to your comments. I'm a little confused to why this blog publishes all these comments because it appears there are one or two trouble makers who want to divide the Dorchester school community. That is too bad. They are a cancer and all cancer should be cut out, otherwise it will fester and grow and kill.

My sneaking suspicion is the person/people leaving some of these comments do not even live in Dorchester or the school district. Maybe I'm wrong, but they seem to have a personal agenda based on my experience. I hope people reading this don't get the wrong idea and think there are a throng of parents up in arms, because there aren't. All the parents I've spoken with about this issue have been very, very pleased with how Milford has treated Dorchester in the combination of our football teams. I expect that cooperation and amazing good nature will continue if our school is forced to combine basketball teams.

  7. I think the board member will think twice, when it comes to March, and alot of our kids opt out, to go to other schools. We went to the school board meetings, and didnt get us anywhere, if they wont listen to the public, just wait till march, and we will see who was right or wrong.
