From business owners to school teachers, elected officials to organization leaders, our town and area community are comprised of many people who deserve recognition for their work to improve their neighbors' quality of life.
The Times wants to know which Dorchester area resident has contributed the most to his or her fellow citizens in 2009. Who should be named Dorchester's "Citizen of the Year"? We want your nominations. And tell us why he or she is deserving of the accolade. Nominations may be submitted in the comments section of this story or sent to us via e-mail at Dorchester.Times@gmail.com.
The Times will name its Dorchester "Citizen of the Year" on Jan. 15.
I would like to nominate Bill Velder as the "Dorchester Person of the Year". All of the time, effort, and work that he and others put into the new concessions stand warrants recognition.
ReplyDeleteLet's nominate Joyce Karl--
ReplyDeleteshe's always there when you need something
I would like to 2nd the nomination for Bill Velder, ..Thanks Bill
ReplyDeleteI'll 3rd the vote for:
ReplyDeleteBill Velder, ALL THE WAY!!
He and his family have changed lives from his own backyard to the far reaches of the United States!
Always willing to not only lend a hand but also lend his ear when you need advice.
Mark Bors
ReplyDeletefor his years of service, help and kindness.....
BILL VELDER FUNNY MAN MAKES EVERYONE LAUGH GOOD PERSON ALL AROUND
ReplyDeleteThis may not be a specific person, but Farmers Cooperative. Thank goodness a number of their employees live in Dorchester, (I wish more did) and they provide financial support to most any and every worthwhile cause that asks them. Several employees have become very active in the community. The other nominations are themselves very worthy. But it takes more than one to make a community.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Bill Velder also For his creativity ,humor , kindness and service to all the rule people in the country who were snowed in . He was on vacation but still came forth to get our roads open what a great guy he is very caring
ReplyDeleteBrent Zoubek for all the work he does with the town's youth and Dorchester students. He is building a culture of caring, like what existed in the days when many of us were growing up here.
ReplyDeleteCynical Richard --
ReplyDeleteDon't be nominating yourself!
For me it's a toss up between Bill Velder and Mark Bors.
ReplyDeleteCoach/Teacher Ryan Voelker has to be in that mix.
ReplyDeleteAdam Briggs because he takes care of the school like it is his own and treats every one with respect.
ReplyDeleteBill Velder hands down, no doubt
ReplyDeleteBased on my experience you'll need a people of the year award. You could also pick any member of the school board. They've certainly given much.
ReplyDeleteCarol Olson!
ReplyDeleteI think Bill Velder or Brent Zoubek for all that they do for the Dorchester Community and the youth.
ReplyDeleteI would like to nominate myself for the following reasons:
ReplyDelete1. I felt bad when I knocked over the mailbox.
2. I supply Ben's Iron Grill with my secret blend of herbs and spices
3. I have never employed or even looked at an illegal alien.
4. I know where the gold dust is.
5. I donated all my winter coats to people in colder climates. (Took awhile to find one.)
6. I always clean the lint filter when I'm finished at the laundromat.
7. I never kick my dog.
8. I rarely cheat on my taxes.
9. I think Dorchester should be the capitol of Nebraska instead of Lincoln.
10. I will wear a nice suit and have a nice speech if I win this nomination.
Thank you for your consideration.
David.
what about scott pohl.
ReplyDeleteLyle Weber does a lot for the youth also. He coaches baseball and basketball and he was up helping with the concession stand also.
ReplyDeleteI nominate ALL town board members because they stepped up when others sat on their hands or just whined. They take lots of heat and get no financial compensation for wearing a big fat target on their backs. Support them, tell them your concerns in a civil way, be nice, offer ideas, thank them.
ReplyDeleteDavid has my vote..
ReplyDeleteI second Scott Pohl. He's always helpful to Dorchester parents, fans and alumni.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Bill Velder too. How many people would go pull someone out at 4:45 in the morning.
