It has been a while since I've left a comment, but I wanted to let the Dorchester Times know that I like the latest "days gone by" photos added to your website. Also I want to wish Ben H. all the best in his new business venture. The wife and kids and I will be supporting him!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bob regarding the lovely photographs. In addition, I will be stopping by the grill for a tofu burger.
ReplyDeleteIn his book "When Giants Fall: An Economic Roadmap for the End of The American Era," New York Times bestselling author Michael Panzner writes:
ReplyDeleteBudgets of state and local governments will evaporate in some cases almost overnight, and safety nets and what people have assumed are "essential" services will disappear. Family, social, and community relationships will become far more important, and much of this may be based on the need for safety and security.
The lesson is to support your local businesses. Change is a'comin...
Congratulations on the new grill. I LOVE the picture of the old school. My grandparents (Prachar/Aksamit) were married in 1927. I'm sure they remember the old building.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the pictures, is there anyway we can get a larger view of them.
ReplyDeleteIn regard to the photo of the old school. My grandpa, Tony Wolfe, told me that before he went to the Great War, (WW1) he and some buddies, put a buggie up on the peaked roof one Halloween. Now that is a prank that took some work!

PS Congratulations on the new business in Dorchester!

ReplyDeleteThe Times plans to run a series of our old photos in an upcoming post.
Those photos will be able to be enlarged by readers.
Stay tuned.
JR,
ReplyDeleteI can one up you. In the 1920's on Halloween night in Wilber, the kids used to take apart a threshing machine and then reassemble it on the roof of the school. To stay on topic, I don't believe they did any grilling!
I appreciate this story along w/ your others. I also understand that this blog does not have to be equal, but I would like to know why there is this article about the east side tavern but never has there been a notice or article about the new owners of the west side. If you at the times wish for your citezens to keep the money at home, then mabey you should also mention some of the other business.
