Election Wrap-Up: Cecerle, Pracheil Newly Elected To Local Government Boards

The 2026 general election has come and gone.

And now that the dust has settled, we can confirm some changes are coming to the Dorchester Village Board and Dorchester Public School Board.

The village board had three of its five seats up for election, including incumbents Roger Miller (current board chairman), Matt Shaw, and Nate Hitchins. Also appearing on the ballot were former village employee Brett Cerny and former board member Dean Pracheil, who fell short in his bid to get re-elected in 2018.

Beginning in January 2019, new Dorchester Village board members will be Shaw, Hitchins, Pracheil, Tammy Lang, and Nancy Tellez.

Meanwhile, the Dorchester Public School Board of Education had three open seats, and all three longtime current board members whose seats were up -- Steve Vyhnalek (current president), Carol Schnell, and Matt Hansen (current vice president) -- sought re-election.

One challenger, Stephanie Cecrle, filed to run for the school board this year, while another person who is already serving on the village board was actively promoting his write-in campaign.

Schnell and Hansen were re-elected, while Cecrle received the most votes with 229.

Here are Tuesday's election results for school board:

A big round of applause to all the candidates who had the courage and dedication to put their name on the ballot, especially in an era of constant criticism from the social media warriors who never volunteer to serve themselves.
