Is there any word on Dorchester's fourth of July schedule of events? Please post it when you get it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to my dear friend who graduated 50 years ago this past spring from UNL Teachers College. You have helped more children than you will ever know.
ReplyDeleteGreat article for those of us pushing 50.
ReplyDeleteHappiness May Come With Age, Study Says
The results, published online May 17 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, were good news for old people, and for those who are getting old. On the global measure, people start out at age 18 feeling pretty good about themselves, and then, apparently, life begins to throw curve balls. They feel worse and worse until they hit 50. At that point, there is a sharp reversal, and people keep getting happier as they age. By the time they are 85, they are even more satisfied with themselves than they were at 18.

I agree with the study posted by “Class of 1980.” I always heard that life begins at 40. However, I discovered that many so-called loyal friends and family decided to abandon me as I was no longer useful to them. In addition, employment layoffs made much of the decade unsettling. As 50 approaches, things seem to have “evened out” and I am more cautious as to who receives my friendship. In other words, I have developed better filters.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because at age 50, most people are just finally figuring out that the point of earthly life is not to get too comfortable here.
ReplyDeleteIt's a short one, folks.
Nice article Mr. Johnson
ReplyDeletejust goes to show you that the bloggers dont know what they are talking about most of the time
Let's get paving, baby!
ReplyDeleteDoes a DHS Alumni work for the Lincoln Saltdogs? I heard this through the grape-vine but don't know if there's any truth behind it.

What will Dorchester be offering for 4th of July? I keep hearing it is quite a show but I've seen nothing about the events.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI am doing genealogy research and was wondering how Saline County residents pronounce the following name: Busboom
Is it Bus-boom or Bush-bomb?
I have heard both usages.
Thank You
Thank you to the Dorchester residents who are Wilber graduates for attending the Wilber Alumni banquet earlier this month. Attendance has fallen in the past few years and it was good to see you at the gathering. By the way, the Class of 1955 appeared to be really rockin. After 55 years, it was time to cut loose!
ReplyDeleteI think BUS-boom is the preferred pronounciation.
ReplyDeleteThank you to "P. Hill Guy" for the correct pronounciation of Busboom.
ReplyDeleteI know we have a lot of political junkies on this board who may be interested in the following black and white film clip.(No sound)I found this on YouTube. It's footage of Bobby Kennedy's visit to Wilber to dedicate Czech Village and campaign for the 1968 NE primary. John Glenn is also in the film. Kennedy was killed three weeks later.
