Seven Dorchester wrestlers will travel to the Omaha Qwest Center to take part in the 2010 State Wrestling Tournament. One Times' staff member says the number at least ties the largest number of wrestlers that DHS has ever sent to state. DHS was District D-1 runner-up out of 16 teams and was topped only by the state's No. 2-ranked Class D squad, Palmer, which is sent nine wrestlers to state.
Also, Saturday's accomplishment comes after DHS had fallen out of the latest Class D wrestling rankings, which gave more respect to nearby rivals Friend (No. 7) and Sutton (No. 9). Compared to Dorchester's seven state qualifiers, Friend is sending three to Omaha; Sutton is sending four.
This year's DHS state qualifiers are:
- 112 lb.: Jordan Jensen, Fr. (placed 4th at District);
- 119 lb.: Jeremy Inderlied, Jr. (1st at District);
- 125 lb.: Brandon Schwisow, So. (2nd at District);
- 135 lb.: Alec Lisec, So. (4th at District);
- 140 lb.: Sid Stern, Jr. (2nd at District);
- 145 lb.: Adam Kahle, Sr. (3rd at District);
- 189 lb.: Russell Barak, Jr. (3rd at District).
Dorchester has produced three state wrestling champions over the years: 1981-Mike Williams (185 lb., Class C); 1986-Don Bruha (185 lb., Class D); and 1988-Brad Andelt (112 lb., Class D). This year, the State High School Wrestling Championships will be held Feb. 17-20 at the Qwest Center. To see the first-round pairings, click here. For hotel and other information, click here. We wish all seven DHS wrestlers best of luck at state.
Don Bruha was pound for pound the toughest guy to ever walk through those hallowed halls of DHS
ReplyDeleteWay to go guys. Go get them at state!
ReplyDeleteJR
DHS Wrestler 71-74
And Donnie was one of the nicest.
ReplyDeleteObviously you never met Bob Zoubek!!
ReplyDeleteRuss has good history on his side. Go DHS!
ReplyDeleteAwesome picture of the longhorn.
ReplyDeleteGood chance that DHS could add two more state champs to the honor roll!!!
ReplyDeleteThe school has new halways and new studs so look ahead not behind. With good leadership and coaching Dorchester wrestling could be number one in the future. We do not care about Friend Sutton and Palmer because they will be in the dust soon. h
ReplyDeleteit would be nice to see a large turn out at state for this kids that have put in a lot of hard work. It was neat how the town of Palmer had so many fans that followed there team to districts, Dorchester fans should show the same support for our wrestlers as well. I see the basketball teams get a good turn out even when they have been down these last few years. It would be nice to show some respect to these kids and show up in Omaha!
ReplyDeleteToo bad DHS fell out of the rankings. The team placed no lower than 3rd at any meet and took home the top team trophy 5 times. The wrestling gurus must have been looking the other way. Coach Kastl has done an awesome job with these kids. He has a lot of respect for all the members of his team. The wrestlers worked hard all season and it paid off! The wrestling team is definitely "Back on Track", just as their shirts say. Beware Quest Center the Longhorns are coming!
ReplyDeleteWe went to the State Westling when the Kohout's boys went that was alot of fun!!!
ReplyDeletelets strive to be number one in academics too
ReplyDeletenever seen anything about that
shows what is important to society
By my count at least 5 of the wrestlers were on the honor roll or honorable mention. No wrestlers were benched all season for academic ineligibility. So it seems that academics and sports can go hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteWhy even bother responding to people who go through life hating those who enjoy being competitive and athletic, or enjoy watching those who are?
ReplyDeleteThere are too many albatrosses in life as it is.
(Hey, Anonymous, do you even know what an albatross is?)
Why yes, I do know what an albatross is. I have read "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", where the saying comes from and yes, Rime is spelled correctly.
ReplyDeleteNot only have I read "The Rime," I have won gold metals in wrestling, scored touchdowns, hit grand slams and graduated from a four-year university with honors. How in the world did I manage to do that with a jock brain like mine?
ReplyDeleteAll hope abandon ye who play sports. You can't possibly excel in the classroom, too.
Hey...its Qwest, not Quest
ReplyDeleteReaders:
ReplyDeletePlease keep your comments germane to the story topic.
Thank you.
And where exactly did DHS end up at state? I know the slackers from Palmer were runner-ups and all 4 of the qualifiers from Sutton medaled with a state champ and a runner-up.
