Get ready for the red carpet roll out of the 2008 DHS teams, Longhorn fans!
The Dorchester Booster Club is sponsoring the annual fall sports preview next Friday, Aug. 29, at Nerud Field. According to DHS Athletic Director Scott Pohl, the festivities will kick off with the Booster Club offering a tailgate meal starting at 6 p.m. Cost is only $3.
The DHS volleyball coaches will introduce the 2008 Lady Longhorns at approximately 6:30, followed by the football coaches' introduction of the 2008 Longhorn gridiron team. A scrimmage of the football team will be held after the players' introduction.
Instead of bringing a sports drink for admission for the scrimmage -- as has been the tradition in the past -- the DHS Boosters are asking that a donation be given to the new Nerud Field concessions/restroom facility effort. The new facility will be built late this fall.
The DHS Booster Club is also asking any and all community members to join the Club and help support the youth of Dorchester. Those with questions should contact Scott Pohl at spohl@esu6.org.
The DHS football team should go at least 6-2, maybe 7-1 one. With Bruha, Jenssen, Khale and some other studs at key positions, they will be solid. I worry a little about lack of depth due to bad turnout by two grades. I don't understand why so many guys in high school right now aren't athletes.

ReplyDeleteIt's like that all over. There are less kids going out for sports and/or extra curricular activities. I know some of the kids are working now, but some it just doesn't interest them.
Considering the large amount of talent, I'm thinking the girls' volleyball team will be great this year.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a state tourney appearance????
Git 'R Done, Longhorns!
ReplyDeleteFootball squad will go 6-2. Volleyball team will go to state. I'd put money on it if betting on high school sports was legal, of course.
From looking at the early votes on the Poll, it doesn't look like very many people have faith in our young kids. Show some support. Even if you don't think the football team is going to do well, you don't have to push it in their faces. Show them that you believe in them and they will work hard and play their heart out on that field to make you proud! Show them you don't believe in them and you are going to see exactly the opposite. Good Luck to both the boys and girls this fall! Our family will be at the games supporting you!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't get too worried about the poll. My guess is that the non-athletes in the school are spending time on their computers.
ReplyDeleteI believe lack of interest in sports and music is common in all areas, I know it is here in Lincoln. Students are spending more time texting and in their computers and don't have time for extra-curricular activities. This is unfortunate as I truly believe taking part in sports and music, particularly music, helps develop one's soul and there will be something missing in their lives as they get older.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that the post did not mention that the volleyball team was going to scrimmage. Does anyone know if they are?
ReplyDeleteThe girls will not be having a scrimmage open to the public since the gym is currently unavailable for use due to the new construction.
ReplyDeleteThere will not be a girl's volleyball scrimmage because they are not currently able to use the gym. They have been practicing in another town. However the volleyball team and coaches will be introduced and the coaches will talk a little about the team, out at the football field before the boys take the field to scrimmage.

We recommend you discuss this in person with the coach or the DHS athletic director.
