Several sources now confirm that the R-Lounge in downtown Dorchester has permanently closed its doors.
The tavern and restaurant had marked its one-year anniversary only about a month ago.
In the last 15 years, the tavern on Dorchester's east side has also been occupied by the Last Call Bar, the Longhorn Saloon, and the Pit Stop bar and grill.
No other details regarding the closing of R-Lounge or prospective buyers were immediately available.

I'm sure going to miss the good food.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame. I ate there often and thought the prime rib was top notch. I think the town could support a restaurant that's open just Thurs.-Sun. It's tough to support two pubs nowadays in a town of only 600.
ReplyDeleteThat is a shame - I would come from out of town to eat there. Their ribeyes were great! A lot of long hours go into running a bar & grill and I'm sure it can take a toll on family life.
ReplyDeleteGuess the oil wrestling didn't work out for them.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame....I appreciated their creativity, such as the wine tasting Saturdays and R-Lounge had the best prime rib around. I agree with above statements.....running a bar and grill is not easy, especially in a small town.
ReplyDeleteThis is bad news....... Dorchester needs a place to eat where smokers aren't allowed to make your eyes water and your clothes stink.......
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone could by the place and make it a family friendly environment. With no smoking,
and no oil wrestling. Maybe a place the teens can go without
being in the presents of alchohol
and etc. You wouldn't have to change the building. Maybe air out the stench.
It is interesting to me that Dorchester used to be only 410 people........1970 census, and it supported TWO...count them....TWO....establishments who made money at it. The East Side supported a family of 6 for over a decade.
ReplyDeleteSomebody is going elsewhere to spend their money.
Dorchester also supported a teen center during the 70's. I had never been to the R lounge. I don't eat at the West side. Why...
ReplyDeleteI and my family members a alergic to smoke. I also won't go to a place that has oil wrestling. Tacky tacky tacky. Very low class.
Also not what I want my daughter to think is an acceptable job option.
Some people stay home and spend time with their families. These establishments aren't really the best place for a family to go out and eat. Who takes their family to watch oil wrestling?
ReplyDeleteI see Dorchester has a candle shop next to Sheryll's West Side Saloon. What are the hours?
ReplyDeleteThe R lounge's oil wrestling was supposed to be for adult fun... as stated it was for 21 and over. The bar wasn't supposed to be known only for food, how is a business supposed to survive off of low priced food and supporting a family of 6 with 3 young children who need parents. My parents quit this place so they could spend more time with our family. And to get away from all of the awful gossip. And as for taking the family out to see the oil wrestling, it was meant to have fun with other grown adults. we did our share of family nights like almost every night you could take your family out to eat. We tried to support this town.I wanted to thank those of you who had been loyal customers thanks for your support!!!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know why everyone is making such a big deal about the oil wrestling that went on at R Lounge. It certainly isn't something that I would go watch and I don't find it to be a tasteful form of entertainment, but it didn't stop me from eating there any other time. I only know of two times that the oil wrestlers were there. Every other night you could enjoy really great food in a not-so-smokey atmosphere. Of course oil wrestling isn't a family event, but stop acting like it's all that went on there.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, if the gossip that goes on in this town did play a part in R Lounge's closing, what does that say about Dorchester? We should all find a better way to spend our time.
My thanks to the Radik's for the time they spent in Dorchester. They were always good to me personally and I had a lot of fun weekends at R Lounge....even though I never went for the oil wrestling.
Two news flashes........ Dorchester is no different than any other small town in America when it comes to gossip........... also, the reason most small towns can't support more than two or more bars these days is because eating habits have changed ........ even a lot folks my age don't go out to eat in smokey bars today, much less the younger crowd who didn't grow up with a cig in their hands ........ I like what Cheryll is doing at the West Side Bar ........that will bring in more diners.
ReplyDeleteCynical Richard,
ReplyDeleteIn response to your "news flash"...I'm well aware that gossip is the norm in any small town. My point was how bad must it have been if it was PART of the reason the Radik's closed shop. Just thought it might make people stop and think...myself included.
Jennifer--I'm sorry you and your family didn't feel welcome in Dorchester and had to put up the gossip in this town. Every town (big or small, I would guess) does have their fair share of gossip, but I've lived here for years and have figured out that this town LOVES to gossip. They love to gossip to take the spotlight off of what they or someone in their own family might have done to get the gossip hounds wound up.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet there are a couple of the posters on this blog (I won't bother to name them) that instigate much of this town's gossip.
Again, I'm sorry your family had to go through that, but if you aren't born and raised here, you're fodder for the gossip hounds.
Some things will never change--read Chuck Bolton's letter to the editor.
Look everyone, it's Saint Anonymous at it again. Bashing everyone in Dorchester except him/herself. I'll tell you what Anonymous, I ate at R-Lounge at least once every three weeks while it was open. How often did you eat there, you pious piece of perfection?
ReplyDeleteAnother question, do you go to church on Sundays or are you cast without sin? Quit making yourself sound as though you are holier than thou. It's a shame your self esteem is so low that you think the town is ganging up on just little ol' you. When it comes to gossip, Dorchester is actually better than most other small towns I have been to. Look what gossip is doing to Friend and its hospital situation. I invite you to join the rest of us and become a working part of your community. Or, hell, continue to sit in front of your little computer to think the world is working against you. Either way the rest of us will get on with life the best we know how, with or without you.
ok big bad bob--who died and made you the blogger God??
ReplyDeleteAnd how dare you judge me? You know absolutely nothing about me.
You don't know what I've contributed to this community.
You poke your finger at all of us Saint Anonymous posters, but you are absolutely no better. Saint Anonymous BOB.
Why don't you get off YOUR computer and contribute something to this community? What is your list of great accomplishments?
It's people like YOU that give this community a bad name with your comments to everyone who comments on this blog site whose opinion doesn't agree with your opinion of the world.
I hope you are not part of our education system or on the Dorchester Area Community Association because I don't want anyone to have to have contact with the likes of you and your crappy attitude.
Good for you, Bob. Had you not said it, I would have.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's a shame ...I ate there as well & partyed from time to time there also! All I can say is I wish the very best & hope all work's out for them. Sometime it pay to stay to your self!
ReplyDeleteI miss my cronies!!!
