According to information provided to the Times, DSIP members attending the meeting were given a detailed presentation of the new school buildings as planned by architect Christy Joy.
Afterwards, DSIP members discussed the importance of ensuring that all school district patrons are registered to vote. Voter registration forms may be picked up at the Village Office. Mailed registrations must be received by the Saline County Clerk no later than August 24, with a copy of the voter's driver’s license. Voters may also register in person at the County Clerk’s office on or before August 31. Applications for absentee ballots are available at the Village Office or the County Clerk’s office.
The Times has learned that donations have been made to the DSIP Committee to help defray costs of promoting the building project. DSIP leaders say that anyone interested in making a donation may call the committee’s treasurer, Deanna Bird.
Presentations on the building project are planned for the upcoming meetings of various Dorchester organizations, including the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Methodist Women. All school district patrons are invited to learn more about the building project at Sheryll’s West Side Saloon on Wednesday, August 22 at 7 a.m.
District patrons are also encouraged to support Dorchester athletes at the DHS sports preview on August 24. Hot dogs will be provided by DSIP. Dorchester School patrons are also invited to a grill-out on Monday, August 27, which will include tours and a presentation about the school project.
The next DSIP meeting will be this Wednesday, August 15th at 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Really, we don't know how much this is going to cost. Look at the town first.. Come on people the town has been a dump for awhile and we are not doing anything about it but wait lets put more time into the town then the school. I guess thats to hard figure out.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see a big crowd show up to support the 07/08 teams -- not just parents and grandparents.
ReplyDeleteI know that "Friend" is a dirty word in Dorchester, but we could take some lessons from the Friend community in how they support their teams and the school.
That sort of pride has not been part of Dorchester's culture for several years. And don't tell me it's due to Dorchester not having cheerleaders - I just might have to puke if you blame community/school apathy on that.
Build the school. Pave the streets.
ReplyDeleteBuild the school. Pave the streets.
Build the school. Pave the streets.
If Dorchester takes those two simple but admittedly expensive steps, things will turn around. Guaranteed. They don't have to happen overnight, but there has got to be a 5 or 10 year plan.
so is building a new school, its going to take time, get off the kick, what will happen, will happen, the people will decide.
ReplyDeleteBeing a past school board member and usually stating my opinion both pro and con, I have several comments and questions. Knowing that I have not lived in the county 40 years, I am still considered an outside by most in the county. I have several degrees and certificates. I don't believe that I have flonted this fact on anyone. I was a physical therapist for forty + years 4 pro-ball part-time, 8 yrs college and 33 of those years in Saline County and surrounding areas.I have most of my obligations out of the way. I volunteered coaching softball,, football and track, boy scouts, volunteer coaching football, church council, school board, gun club, Knights of Columbus and many I have forgotten. Therefore when I retired I felt I owed nothing to anyone except the big guy (Upstairs) the wife and family. I have had the ups and downs of life as most of us have; but I won't dwell on that because yours will always be worse than mine and we can get no where fast. To the Questions:
ReplyDelete1.) How many elders are on the DSIP?
2.) How many were asked?
3.) How many past board members?
4,)Why wasn't the blitz started sooner with notification of meetings in the news media?
5.) The meetings that were held, were questions about enrollments asked?
6. What is this years enrollment?
7. Is it the same as last years classification in football for the fall sports?
8.) The count was(67)students for 9th 10th 11th grades?
9.)I believe that the count by state is every two years, so is this year the new count for the next two years?
10.) Will that count be made public before the election?
11.) Did the architect have input from staff on rooms to be used for teaching?
12.) New rooms, old furniture and old equipment?
13.) New rooms, new furniture and new equipment?
I will end with the bakers dozen for now. I will have many more questions before the deadline. If I get the correct answers.
I don't mean to offend anyone. I am stating my positions and need to receive some type of answer. I have decided how to vote, and your DSIP(school) will have to convince me otherwise.
I did receive one notification of a school board meeting presentation for past membersl on the new schol. However1 I was out of state when that meeting took place. Respectfully submitted. Charles A. Bolton 1400 Co.Rd. 1400, Dorchester, Nebraska 68343-2265 Typed but not proofed
WHAT A NICE ARTICLE THAT MR. BOLTON WROTE, AND SO FAR NOT MUCH OF THIS SCHOOL THINGS HAS REALLY BEEN ANSWERED, INSTEAD OF ALL THESE MEETING, DONUTS, AND WHATEVER, WHY CANT THE FIGURES, BE STATED, OF HOW MUCH, WHICH HAS BEEN SAID, BUT REALLY, LETS POST WHAT THEY FIQURES WILL REALLY BE, AND IF YOU CAN TRY TO ANSWER MR. BOLTONS QUESTION AND PUT THEM ON THE DORCHESTER TIMES, SEND THEM TO EVERYONE IN TOWN, MOST PEOPLE REALLY DONT HAVE TIME OR ARE WORKING TO MAKE THE MEETINGS, NOT COUNTING THE ELDERLY, AND IF AYERS, HAVENT CHANGED ANYTHING, POST THE REAL FACTS, AND DONT KEEP EVERYONE WONDERING.
ReplyDeleteThis is just one man's opinion, but I think DSIP has offered more than enough opportunities to ask questions in person. If you don't have the guts to go and find out information in person, quit hopping online and complaining. The world is not conspiring against you. You're part of the problem if you're not part of the solution!
ReplyDeleteand so on , and so on.
ReplyDeletewhy arent the people who are opposed to the school offered the same information as the DSIP people.
ReplyDeleteThis information is presented at the DSIP meetings, and what if i dont support the new school, where can i get my information that i need?
Are there any more meetings to be held by the school board?
WOW!!, Doesn't the last anonymous just sum up most the opposition's comments. They know they are against it, even though they don't have the same information as those that are in favor? So, they are opposed to something without having all the information?
ReplyDeleteTo be truly opposed to something don't you really need to know what the other side is thinking? This is an important issue Dorchester, get informed!!
Whether you are for or against the new school isn't what 'rises to the top', it's the fact that there are a group of concerned citizens (all ages) who are working their tails off for a cause they believe in. I love seeing Dorchester area residents stepping up. Maybe once this issue is decided, there will be a new group (DCPS)Dorchester Citizens for Paved Streets. Now that would be exciting, 2 worthwhile causes back-to-back.
ReplyDeleteIf you are against the school, come to the next meeting. It's a community grill out with tours and an informational meeting. You will find out what you need to know there.
ReplyDeleteinteresting maiing from DSIP
ReplyDeletei see our 17 dollar a month estimate has already went to 20
and a very interesting way to present it, show 15.00 dollars on a 75,000 dollar house so it looks less
very clever
I am sure someone will fall into the trap
why doesnt this surprise everyone, lots of people said that this would happen.
