Preps Underway for Alumni Banquet, Chrastil Reception

As 18 Dorchester seniors received their diplomas Saturday, preparations continued for the Dorchester Alumni banquet slated for 6 p.m. on May 26 at the school gymnasium. Crete News correspondent Marva Kasl reports that some of the out-of-town alumni who have already registered include Roger Wolfe, Jr.; Dorene Duba Schneider; Steve and Angie Andelt Conner; Laura Beck Morrison; Tom Rut; Earl and Karen Kenney Parks; Donnetta Sand Hoffman; Linda Kahle Woolsey; Bruce Leach; Joyce Larson Presswalla; Yvonne Wheeler Cline; Richard Rardin; Connie Beekly LaMonde; Coach Bill Story; and Fred and Mary Anne Weber Guggenmos. Banquet tickets can still be purchased for $13 each by sending checks to the Dorchester Alumni Association, P.O. Box 247, Dorchester 68343.

Scheffert also reports the Alumni Association has had inquiries about the old school bell and the proposed bell monument. The Association is still overseeing a bell monument fund, which has been moved into a certificate of deposit to collect more interest. However, there are no immediate plans to utilize the funds. Scheffert said board members felt that due to the uncertainty of the proposed school renovation plans, which include a bell monument, it would be best to "take a wait and see attitude." Alumni with questions, comments or wishing to serve on the monument committee should contact the Association or e-mail tomscheffert@hotmail.com.

Meanwhile, Scott Pohl informs us that a retirement reception honoring longtime DHS teacher Raphael Chrastil, as well as other staff members leaving the school, will be held Monday, May 21, at 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend. If you have questions or need more information, call the school at 946-2781.

  1. A bell monument would be great regardless of whether a new school is built. I miss seeing the old bell that was east of the school.
