Yes, there are ways you can help a good cause and look good while doing it.
The Dorchester Student Council will be selling YUDA bands for a service project beginning today, April 22, and continuing through May 3.
These are handmade bracelets of leather and coconut shell that were shipped from Guatemala. The bracelets cost $7 each and there are many different designs to choose from.
All proceeds support students in Guatemala -- as selected by the DHS Student Council -- to help give them an education. If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact Mrs. Lutjemeyer at the school or by emailing slutjemeyer@gmail.com.
Guatamala ..... shhhhhhhh ........................ there are plenty of education deficiencies right here in our own country ............................... maybe we need to be learning basic arithmetic and spelling instead of making bracelets to feel warm and fuzzy ............................... let the third worlders make bracelets ........... teach our kids how to weld and make homes and cars and machines and design software ......... focus on the classroom not social agendas ........................ leave the social agendas to the church ...................
ReplyDeleteWe do spend the majority of our school day working on Math and Reading. There is very little room for the "warm fuzzies" that you are talking about. This YUDA Band project is a service project that I am doing for our council. Just like the Make A Wish auction that we have. I feel that our students need to learn that there are many less fortunate than us and they don't always need to get money in return for things they do. Doing good for others, whether in this country or elsewhere, is something EVERYONE should practice! Thank you to everyone that has supported this project so far--the 2 students we chose to sponsor will greatly appreciate your kindness. Also thanks again to everyone that donated or purchased an item at our Make A Wish auction!
DeleteTend to agree with Richard. But, not every worthy social agenda comes from the church. Some worthy agendas are opposite of church dogma.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever done anything for anyone, besides yourself, in your life? Find a heart somewhere soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why can cynical dick say things like that and get printed, and the rast of us get shut down?
ReplyDelete.........cause the "rast" of you can't spell .............................
ReplyDeleteCynical, youre the opposite side of a Richard
ReplyDeleteThanks to Mrs. Lutjemeyer and the DPS Student Council for working together to help those who are less fortunate.....pay it forward!!
DeleteOf all the great things Mrs. Lutjemeyer does.......great art teacher.......heads up student council......takes charge of the elementary excellence rallies.........director for school plays....and all you can do is point out the negative??????????!!!!!!!! As I was always told, if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem!
DeleteThank you! I really do enjoy helping out in any way.
DeleteYea Richard, you're a meanie!
ReplyDeleteSo proud of my grand-daughter and the student council from the Freshman Class at Southwest High School in Green Bay Wi. They sold these bracelets also. Sent over $1,000 dollars to help the students in Guatemala. Helping the less fortunate is not a bad thing.
