The Times Wants Your Suggestions

Have you ever wished the Dorchester Times would do things differently? Here is your chance to tell us what we are doing wrong -- and how we can fix it -- or what we are doing right.

Please take a minute and click on the "comments" link at the end of this post and give us some recommendations on how we can improve this website. We know you all have opinions, so don't be shy.

Also, the Times is constantly looking for community reporters. You can always send us news reports, pictures and other items to our permanent e-mail address: Dorchester.Times@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing your creative ideas and helpful suggestions.

  2. We want more online polls. I think thats the only way to truly know what people are thinking because not everyone wants to leave a comment and you dont know if the same people are leaving many messages.

  3. More non-scientific polls? To know what people are thinking? You have got to be kidding. A poll where people can vote multiple times by just logging onto a different computer tells you nothing.

The reason that I originally started visiting this blog is that it had some great historical stories and photos of this region. That is what I would like to see more of.

Now it has evolved pretty much into a crap blog that only complains. I used to visit it once a day, now it is once a week. If it continues its current trend of griping, it will soon be once a month...and finally never. Life is too short to continue to read about a bunch of whining over streets.

If you want paved streets (which may or may not be a good idea), get off your butts and speak publically instead of hiding behind a blog. I'm quite sure that some of the people behind this blog don't even live in the city limits (I'm sure they will assure us otherwise).

If you want people to write grant proposals, get off your blogging butts and help the city out with writing those.

So, in short, my suggestion is; do more of what you do well (history, current news updates), and less of what makes you (and indirectly Dorchester) look bad (whining and complaining).

  4. I agree with anonymous #2. More polls and more about what the people think.

    Your suggestions have been noted.

We would remind you that more than 100 stories/posts have been published by the Times since Jan. 1 of this year.

Fewer than 5 percent of this year's stories pertain to the paving issue.

But, nonetheless, thank you for taking time to contribute to our little "crap blog."

  8. to the person that commented on the city department. You must have to much time on your hands. You need to worry about yourself, you have no idea what they do, or should you. Lets talk about your job, if you even have one.

We agree. The remark about the city employees was a cheap shot.

We almost thought about not publishing it, but then we thought about all the below-the-belt comments we have received regarding school employees, Co-op employees, businesses here on Main Street.

It is unfortunate that some people get their jollies by running down their fellow citizens.

As for the suggestion to hire another editor, there are actually three "Village Dwellers" among us right now. None of us are paid or compensated in any way other than the satisfaction we get from offering a free communications service to the community.

You are welcome to apply for the Times staff if you would like to be considered. Send your contact information (including cell phone number and e-mail) to Dorchester.Times@gmail.com and tell us why you want to be a part of the team.

  10. Lets have a contest on who the village dwellers are.

I would be a hundred dollars that the dwellers are afraid to come out and admit to the stuff that is put on here.

also. Its amazing that the comments on the village employees are always printed and the comments on other people and places never get printed. Stating a fact.

  11. just another thought................show me an article that was allowed to take a cheap shot at a school board member or coop employeee.

If you do i will buy you a cup of coffee. that seems to be another place that gets critized on YOUR blog

  12. 'Anonymous':

Right or wrong, there have been plenty of critical comments regarding the folks mentioned above.

Need proof? Revisit the comments left before and immediately after the school bond vote a few years ago. We all knew who the school board members were at the time, yet they were able to weather the criticism. And, like the staff at the Times, those board members did not receive pay and benefits for serving their community.

As for the ID of the eight Times staffers, we hope you keep guessing.

Actually, we know who you are.

Hint: One of the Times staff members is practically a neighbor of yours.

  13. This was an interesting thread. Weren't you just tempted to say, "hey ya don't like it?, go else where and so sad too bad we'll try to make it without you"

Hire a new editor? Ya would think a regular reader would know there was not paid staff. So if you've been reading and you think they "hire" the editor, where are you sending your subscription money too?

How about, if you want more history and photos why don't you get off your whining butt, Homer, and so something about it yourself, or do you just write grants?

Do you think only people living within the city limits of Dorchester should be allowed to comment on this blog? I didn't see that anywhere. If you want to set the rules maybe you should run your own blog.

By the way I don't live in Dorchester but I do enjoy reading the blog.

    Human nature is so entertaining.

you all have a good day now, okay?
