The sixteenth annual Dorchester Alumni Basketball Tournament is set for March 19-21 at the Dorchester High School gymnasium, according to DHS activities director Scott Pohl.
Ten teams are registered for this year's tournament. The first game will tip off Friday evening, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. and the tourney will run through Sunday, with the championship game at 4 p.m. (Click on the image at the upper right to see a larger view of the 2010 tournament bracket.)
The DHS Alumni Volleyball Tournament will also be held held in the Dorchester multi-purpose room (new gym). A round-robin tournament will take place Saturday morning to determine the seeding for a single elimination tournament, which will be held in the afternoon.
All interested parties and Dorchester alumni are invited to attend. For questions or more information, call Scott Pohl at (402) 946-2781. Also, several events are planned for this weekend, including a DACF fundraiser lunch on Saturday at the Community Building and special events at Joe's Place and Ben's Iron Grill. Please support the area businesses and organizations this weekend.

I'll be signing autographs and all the ladies can get my phone number after I'm done mopping up on the court!!! My prediction for the tournament is as sweet as my running jumper ... my team wins it all and those teams with the most females will finish at the bottom. You can say i'm wrong but will you admit i'm right when its all over???
ReplyDeletesee y'all on the court baby!!
‘Tis the most wonderful time of the year! DHS Alumni Madness! And what’s Alumni Madness without Dickie V’s picks?! It’s like Rudolph with no red nose baby! Are you SERIOUS!?
ReplyDeleteStarting in the North Region:
Game 1 - #8. B.Vyhnalek vs #9. A. Hansen - I think we can expect a low scoring game with a little slower tempo. In the end, I think size and rebounding from Mr. Vyhnalek and Mr. Carol prove too much in the 48-30 win for B. Vyhnalek.
Game 2 - #4 J. Hromek vs #5 K. Bleach - This is one of the better games of the evening. Team Hromek proved last year they can play with the big boys. Team Bleach may be on the rise a little and can hang around in a game until the very end. Overall, the 4-some of Hromek, the Havlat brothers, and Woerner pull away in the 2nd half, 58-44.
Game 3 - #7 R. Hays vs #10 D. Leeper - Interesting game here. If Rick’s jump shot is on, Team Leepers’ Defense could be in for a long night. Though I am not sure who is exactly on D. Leepers team, if they did absorb some of B. Papiks team, it makes it a closer game. It could come down to free-throws. I’m taking R. Hays with the flip of a coin, 49-48.
Game 4 – #3 B. Zoubek vs #6 C. Bergmeyer - This matchup is usually a semifinals matchup, but we get it in the first round this year! I think Team Zoubek has gained a few from L. Weber’s, and I dont know if Team Bergmeyer will be short staffed or not. The deciding factor ultimately is if Mr. Springer will be in attendance. If Mr. Bergmyer and Mr. Weber can pick up Mr. Springer’s 20+ ppg average, they could get the victory. But, I’m going to have to go with B. Zoubek in this one. Their depth and inside out game proves too much for Team Bergmeyer, 59-54.
That’s day one in the books BABY! Some SPECTACULAR basketball games! The sleeping GIANTS, D. Denker and A Nichols, will be in action on Day two! Things really start to heat up! Stay tuned for my Day 2 picks! You won’t want to miss these!
Dickie V.
Can you believe this? I hear the volleyball girls objected to males playing in the volleybally tourney!!!!! This happened because they are intimidated by my good looks, you know it and I know it. It is also hypocritical because no males object to the girls playing in the basketball tourney.
ReplyDeleteWham Bam Jamma Time! Day two!!! Here we go BABY! Get those electrolytes pumped in to ya! Hope you didn’t have too many beverages at Joes Place or Bens Iron Grill!!! Its time to HOOP BABY!
ReplyDeleteGame 1: #1 D. Denker vs #8 B. Vyhnalek – Team Denker needs to avoid a slow start, but will control the game. Bleach, Denker, Havlat and company advance to the semifinals, 72-55.
Game 2: #2 A Nichols vs #7 R. Hays – R. Hays and company will make this interesting for the first 5-10 minutes of the game. Defense is the name of this game though as scrappiness and depth pay off. A Nichols downs R. Hays, 61-48.
Game 3: #8 B. Vyhnalek vs #5 K. Bleach – This one looks like a good matchup on paper, both size and skill wise. These two teams could get after each other. Let’s pick an upset, B. Vyhnalek over Team Bleach 57-53.
Game 4: #6 C. Bergmeyer vs #7 R. Hays - Not much to this contest. Expect big games from Mr. Weber and Mr. Bergmeyer coming off a loss. Team Bergmeyer 69 Team Hays 53.
Game 5: #1 D. Denker vs #4 J. Hromek – This is an intriguing matchup. The MUCH improved Team Hromek vs. The Proven Champs. These teams match up well. Size is about equal, as well as team speed. I’ll give Team Denker the upper hand on athleticism and guard play, while Team Hromek has the upper hand inside with the taller Havlat. As much as I want to go with an upset special on this one, guard play and shooting is what dooms Team J. Hromek. Team Denker wins 65-59
Game 6: #2 A Nichols vs #3 B. Zoubek – Usually a Championship matchup or a Consolation game, they meet in the Semis. This long standing rivalry always makes for an exciting, low scoring, defensive battle. This game will be decided inside the paint by rebounding and post scoring. I’m giving the upper hand to Team Nichols for those reasons. It’ll come down to free throws in the end. Team Nichols pulls it out, 59-55.
Game 7. #9 A. Hansen vs B. Vyhnalek – This rematch from the first round wont go much differently. Fatigue could be somewhat of a factor as this will be Team Vyhnaleks 3rd game of the day (10am, 12pm, and 4pm). Though Team Hansen will make it a game for as long as they can, Team Vyhnalek wins an ugly one 57-42
Game 8. #6 C. Bergmeyer vs #10 D. Leeper – Overall, Team Bergmeyer is too much for Team Leeper to handle. Nobody to match up inside with Mr. Bergmeyer. Him being the major difference, C. Bergmeyer wins easily, 66-52
Day 2 in the books! We have the finals all set and some SUPER consolation games. Day 3 is going to be AWESOME with a CAPITAL A!! There are some real Goliath matchups in store!!
Dickie V.
Championship Sunday folks! DIPSY DO DUNK-A-ROO! We’ve been waiting a year for this! Its here! Can you BELIEVE IT?! Five great games, Five great matchups. Better get a front row seat! We could have some UPSETS BABY!
ReplyDeleteGame 1: #9 A. Hansen vs #10 D. Leeper – Here’s where the experience (if Team Leeper has some of B. Papiks All-Americans) of Team Leeper comes in to affect. Team Leeper shoots the ball well in this one, winning 65-51
Game 2: #5 K. Bleach vs #7 R. Hays: This one will be decided by rebounding. Team Bleach has that advantage with all their size and girth in the paint. Team Bleach wins a fun one, 66-59.
Game 3: #8 B. Vyhnalek vs #6 C. Bergmeyer - A Cinderlla story for Team Vyhnalek could make this one a close first half. They may also have more depth. However, the 1-2 punch of Mr. Weber-Stockton and Mr. Bergmeyer-Malone will prove too much for Team Vyhnalek. C. Bergmeyer wins 5th place 69-53.
Game 4: #3 B. Zoubek vs #4 J. Hromek – A battle of the proven heavy hitters and the upcoming stars, it has the makings to be an instant ESPN Classic. These two teams have a history of close games. This one won’t be much different. The big four on both teams match up well. Mr. ‘Zeek’ inside is a force to handle in the paint. Question being, who will match up with him and get a body on him? I give Team Hromek the advantage in their guard play, with youth being on their side. Team Zoubek has the better shooters, but Team Hromek will be looking to get out in transition and wear down the Team Zoubek Defense. Depth has to go to Team Zoubek. That will be the difference in this one, Team Zoubek knocks off Team Hromek in a defensive battle, 54-51.
Game 5: #1 D. Denker vs #2 A. Nichols – A rematch from the Championship last year. Team Nichols lost in a close one and is thinking it’s their turn BABY! But is it? Team Nichols has been in these bruiser games many times but seems to come up short. Give A. Nichols the advantage inside, and Team Denker the advantage outside. If Team Nichols slows the pace of the game like they did last year in the final, they will be right in it. UPSET ALERT! I’m going with my upset special here BABY! Look out Team Denker, Team Nichols will win this basketball game 58-55, and will be cutting down the nets as Champions in the 2010 DHS Alumni Tournament! SENSATIONAL GAME!!!!

We will inquire if the problems are being resolved.
J. Weber must be playing some serious ball to make the all tournament team when he isn't even coming back to play.
ReplyDeleteYour all tournament team is flawed.
ReplyDeleteThese guys couldnt hold a candle to the boys from the early 80s
must be a young one predicting.
see you friday
The sleeper team of the tournament is #6 C. Bergmeyer - after a difficult time with injuries last year, they are hear to win and win big.
ReplyDelete#3 B. Zoubek's team is another year older and their streak of 3rd place or better finish is in serious trouble.
#2 A. Nichols' team has an early game saturday morning which leaves them vunerable for the 3:00 tipoff. Remember, this is the first time this team has a bye, and they just might not how to handle it.
As for championship game on Sunday, you are probably thinking they are going to play #1 D. Denker's team. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. Look for the winner of #4 J. Hromek/#5 K. Bleach to knock off the top seeded team on Saturday.
When the dust settles in the corral Sunday afternoon, experience will win over youth leaving #6 C. Bergmeyer on top.
Lee Corso
Good luck to all this weekend and I hope nobody gets hurt! Just remember a Toby Keith lyric:
ReplyDelete"Now my body says, "You can't do this boy"
But my pride says, "Oh, yes you can"
Your all idots and jealous of my mac daddy moves on the floor. That is why friend was recruiting ME when I was in school and am the only one who has prooved to be worth anything after high school when it comes to roundball. I am king and my team knows it. So do all the ladies. Please, anyone who graduated before 2003 needs to hang it up and move over.
ReplyDeleteYou poor young things. You don't remember what it was like when Dorchester was feared in basketball, when scores of 80 or 90 a game were routine.
ReplyDeleteHey "stud", quit your bragging and respect those who came before you...I'm betting they could've mopped the floor with you in their day.
ReplyDeleteShowtime, baby...
ReplyDeletehey stud.. you can't call someone and "idot" because that is not a word at all. the correct spelling is idIot... and second of all its not "your" it is actually "you're" which stands for you are. thanks STuD
ReplyDeleteSo wrong, Dickie V. and Lee Corso...
ReplyDeleteAnd Stud Hoopster, I'm guessing that the old guys not only would have mopped the floor with you in their day, but they did it this weekend, too. Better luck next year.
I've been awaiting a recap of some sort from Dickie V.....but it has not yet appeared!
ReplyDeleteGood thing those who graduated before 2003 didn't "hang it up" this year. They are in better shape than some of the young kids.
