Bruha is listed as the 13th best in passing efficiency in all of Nebraska high school football during the 2007 season. The junior threw 98 completions in 199 attempts, compiling 1,024 passing yards and 10 touchdown tosses.
We also congratulate DHS volleyball standout Wendy Boller. Boller, a junior, was also named to the Journal Star's honorable mention list. No statistics on Boller were available online.
Meanwhile, the DHS basketball season tips off tonight in Exeter as the Longhorns battle the Timberwolves of Exeter-Milligan. The boys team has a slim but reasonably experienced roster headed by Bruha. The Lady Longhorns, under second-year coach Steve Fusco, have a young team with only one senior returning.
** UPDATE: 12/06, 8:30 a.m. **
On Dec. 6, Brandon Bruha was also named to the Associated Press' honorable mention All-State Football Team for Class D-1. Congratulations!
This is a lot better news than what the former Crete basketball player got today. I heard her appeal was denied by the state sports committee. She/her parents must have really had issues with something at Crete to be willing to sacrifice AN ENTIRE SEASON.
ReplyDeleteCorrection. There is a Senior returning this year on the girl's basketball team, Andrea Hanson. Go Lady Longhorns!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the correction, LH. Your edit has been noted.

ReplyDeleteThe NSAA Board of Control voted 6-0 Friday to re-affirm an earlier decision to require standout Lincoln Southeast girls basketball transfer Marissa Kastanek to sit out 90 school days before becoming eligible for varsity competition.
I think someone should have read down the list a little farther under RECIEVING,MORRIS,Dorchester 32 recieption,385 yards 6 touch down, rated #10. we need to be proud of all our kids.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the Dorchester athletes -
ReplyDeleteAs far as Marissa getting cheated out of her Jr. year -- If you know the Kastanek's, you can bet they had all the info in line before they made the decision to move to LSE... NSAA just decided to flex their muscles to make a sacrifical lamb out of Marissa since her name is well known. I hope a lawsuit follows this decision. Only complaint is that the NSAA needs to make sure they enforce this policy to all of the non-public schools...for example, Falls City Sacred Heart and the other athletic powerhouses in Nebraska high school sports.
Our thanks to "Sam" for catching another remarkable ranking of another outstanding DHS football player.
ReplyDeleteWe regret not catching that the first time around.
We are impressed by the "Orange & Black Pass Attack" -- one of the highlights of the 2007 season on the gridiron.
How about the other players that received awards?
ReplyDeleteWhat about them?
ReplyDeleteFeel free to share them with us.

ReplyDeleteThank you. In the future, we would be glad to post news of all DHS students winning state or district honors.

I think we should all be proud of our Dorchester Athletes. I would like to add that Boller was the only nomination for All-State. I am proud of her but there probably would be more names on the all state list from Dorchester if more people would have been nominated.

ReplyDeleteCoaches nominate the athletes that have contributed significantly to the team. Recognition is given to those who have earned it - it's not given because an individual is a "senior" or because everyone else was recognized. The significance of these awards would be diminished if an entire team is nominiated. This isn't grade school where everyone gets a participation ribbon.
Coaches provide individual statistics for these awards - The coach is probably savvy enough to know the statistics of some of the others wouldn't have made the grade anyway.
Sounds like sour grapes. Maybe you need to get your daughter to do some work in the off season.
