Volunteers Needed for Trash Pick-Up Day

It's time to show your Dorchester pride. The Dorchester Area Community Association (DACA) will conduct its trash pick-up day Saturday, April 28. This will be held in conjunction with the Great Nebraska Trash-Off and the Nebraska Department of Roads' Adopt-a-Highway program. More than 6,000 volunteers across Nebraska are expected to participate in this statewide marathon of picking up roadside litter.

Arrive in front of the Dorchester Community Building shortly before 1 p.m. The trash pick-up will take place on Highway 33 from Dorchester to the junction of Highways 33 and 15, west of town. The Roads Department will supply orange vests and trash bags, but you are advised to bring a pair of gloves. There is no age requirement, although those under the age of 15 will need to be supervised. Come and help your Dorchester neighbors make our area even more beautiful.

  5. I think it would be great to also pick up the town; however, truth be known, we usually struggle on getting enough volunteers to pick-up the highway west of town. On a positive note, the elementary kids have a village pick-up day scheduled for May 11th, the day before graduation.

  6. It was perfect weather on Saturday, April 28th, to pick up trash and get some healthy exercise. Twelve volunteers showed up to show their support of DACA and cleaning up the roadside.

Approximately 10 large garbage bags were filled by Kyle, Cody, Ted and Lori Cerny, Carol and Kevin Olson, Judy Schweitzer, Kathy Palky, Don Eret, Tiffany Schweitzer, Marvin Kohout and Dale Hayek. DACA would like to thank these volunteers for their commitment to this semi-annual event.

Our goal is not to have to fill any bags.........are you doing your part?

    Thanks again, DACA

  7. They who throw slams at the Village workers ,obviousy does nothing to help clean up but only runs there mouth . When I go to work which is early I always see one person cleaning the park almost everyday. Mr Filipi I have to commend you for what you do every morning. The kids at the park have not been taught well to clean up after themselves what a shame .So I Challenge everyone that comments about the filth around town to come out on clean up day . Maybe they will have a better understanding and zip there lips!!!

  8. I was there for the roadside trash pick up and I would just like to make a comment to "village dweller". Half the town was NOT there. While there were more there this time than have been in the past, we still could have used more hands. Also, you said you would be there....I understand that you consist of a "group of concerned citizens"...were any of you there? I certainly didn't pick out anyone there who I thought might belong to this "group". I understand that "of course we'll be there" is probably something you kind of had to say, but I really hope at least some of you back up your words and do attend these events like you say you will. I'm not trying to imply that you don't do your part, because you obviously care very much about the future of Dorchester. This blog is great and I do commend whoever is responsible for it. I hope it promotes positive change.
