Maybe everyday life got too easy. Maybe personal security became taken for granted too often. Maybe the radical left's disdain for law and order became too mainstream.
Whatever the cause, America's law enforcement personnel have become the target of radical activists (including sports and Hollywood elites), outlaws, the national news media, leftist politicians, and even some in academia.
This cannot go on forever. And it won't.
Right now, too many in the U.S. are supporting criminals -- and those who associate with them. Too many are actively opposing those who pledge their lives to keep us safe.
That's why the residents of Dorchester and Saline County overwhelmingly support our local law enforcement. We especially appreciate the Saline County Sheriff's Office, located in Wilber.
We are scratching our heads in confusion as protesters -- with their iPhones rolling -- in large cities are egged on by a sympathetic press corps and are given media coverage for their ongoing destruction. (Social media addiction is killing facts and reason, we believe. But that's another story for another day.)
We shake our heads as TV networks, newspapers and Internet outlets are obsessed with attacking law enforcement -- the thin blue line between a law abiding society and anarchy in most large cities.
The protesters are mostly a collection of malcontents -- some of our nation's least productive citizens -- who are at best ignorant, or at worst bent on lawlessness. Some have criminal records. Some are indoctrinated, pampered young people. Others are open anarchists and communists.
Several years ago, the professional crybabies were busy with Occupy Wall Street. Now it's a war on America's police officers.
We don't know how it happened, but our nation is being influenced by some very bad actors who thrive on division, dogma and drama. These "protestors" are far from a majority, but they're working hard to become one.
In rural America, we watch this drama unfold -- and we know there will be repercussions suffered by the agitators and innocent alike.
Let's take a moment to salute our Saline County law enforcement professionals who are the first responders at emergencies, accidents and crime scenes. They're the reason you can sleep soundly at night.
The next time you see one of our law enforcement officers, say "thank you." Tell them you appreciate all they do. And tell them you support their efforts to keep us safe from those who would absolutely do us harm if not for their presence.
County commissioners would be wise to give them a pay raise.

It is a sad commentary when our nation's leaders can run willy-nilly to the microphone to deplore violence against "persons of color" by the militaristic police forces oppressing them and denying them opportunities. It is even sadder when those same leaders tell the National Guard to "stand down" and not inflame the situation, while those "people of color" are looting stores and burning down their neighborhoods. The current administration in Washington does have an agenda and that agenda is to make us all distrustful of one another, based on skin color, economic situation, or national origin. They have disregarded our laws, trampled on our Constitution, and systematically dismantled our health care system. They pass legislation containing thousands of pages, without reading any of it and tell us that once they are laws we can find out what is contained in them. The President was elected on a platform of "hope and change", with lofty promises that everything would be better and there would be harmony throughout the land. All of the changes seem to be detrimental to the idea that this country can be all things to all people. Our hope seems to be fading fast as we become more afraid of what is happening to this wonderful country. There are some who might say that my anger toward the President and his administration is because he is black and I am a bitter old racist Republican. That could not be further from the truth. I judge President Obama and those he has empowered to try and change this fine country for the worse; not by the color of their skin, but instead by the content of their character. That content is sadly lacking in virtually every single one of them. We need to become mindful of those we elect to represent us, especially at the national level. Pay attention to pending legislation and let your representatives (both House and Senate) know you are watching and will not stand for this last minute passage of massive legislation, containing Lord know what. We are a technological society, with almost instantaneous communication to virtually anyone. Let them know who you are and that you are tired of their "slacking off". If each eligible voter actually voted and each voter wrote one letter to his Congressman and both Senators, they would soon see that the real power in this country does belong to the people and they might start treating their jobs as work, not a holy calling to lead us out of the wilderness. Sorry, I did not mean to climb this high up on the soapbox, but once I started the words kept coming. Closing on a happier note, I will leave you with a phrase from my old friend Clement Moore:

The difference between those of us who condemn the protesters and those who turn a blind eye is that the former recognize there is evil in the world. The latter is either too ignorant or too indifferent and would rather watch who's dancing with the stars or playing in this week's football game. They will think differently when the evil comes to visit their family in some form or fashion as it surely will.

Hate to think what will happen to our wonderful country if all this “peaceful “ protesting, rioting, looting, defunding the police, and general lawlessness by the crazy leftists isn’t brought under control. And soon. God help us!
ReplyDeleteGeorge Floyd's killing was a genuine wrongful killing by a police officer, an possibly even a hate crime. But the reaction to it and the very small handful of deaths of blacks who were involved in confrontations with officers has been pure opportunism by the left to destroy what is left of our capitalist economy and our nation's borders, language and culture, just as Mao Zedong tried to do in China. They must be stopped and "we the people" must stop them. Can't count on politicians, bureaucrats or "woke" multinational corporations.
