Vets Day Ceremony At DPS This Monday, Nov. 12

Come honor our area soldiers, saliors, Marines and airmen -- past and present -- this Nov. 12.

Veterans Day is Sunday, but on Monday, Nov. 12, the bank and post office will be closed due to the official government observance of the holiday.

Area residents are invited to salute America's veterans at a ceremony at the Dorchester Public School.  There, attendees will hear a presentation from the Dorchester American Legion Post No. 264 and see a slide presentation by Iraqi/Afghanistan veteran Rio Beranek.

The event begins at 10 a.m. on Monday.

At the very least, make sure you personally thank the veterans you know on this special day. Pay him (or her) a visit, give him a call, or send a card or email. Really celebrate the true meaning of this holiday.

  1. You go Rio, soooo very proud of you. Wish I could be there.

  2. You might want to make a change to your story so that parents are not confused about school. Your story says that there is no school but the Dorchester school calendar has nothing about not having school.

  3. The story doesn't say anything about there being no school... It says that the Ceremony is at the school (the students all attend)

  5. Joyce said.....#1 anonymous seems to want to find fault with the Dorchester Times. Thank you Times for publishing what is going on in our Village.

THANKS to Rio for presenting an up close view of what is going on in other countries. You did a great job and your service to our country is appreciated.

Thanks to all the Veterans who have served the United States of America. I complain about the state our country is in but am allowed that privilege thanks to the Veterans who have fought to keep this country free.

  6. I am anonymous #1 and I wasn't trying to find fault. I was trying to save other parents of Dorchester Students the same panic that I had when I first read the story that said goverment offices and schools were to be closed on Monday. As a parent of young children who I would have to find daycare for I was in a panic. Frantically trying to find out if there was or was not school that day. For the record I check this blog on a regular basis because they do publish nice stories and community information.
