Phony Cop Pulls Over Woman In Dorchester

Maybe Dorchester has a police officer in training. The Saline County Sheriff's Office says a phony police officer pulled over a woman near Dorchester and searched her vehicle. The Associated Press is reporting that the sheriff's office says the woman reported that she was pulled over on Nov. 5 while driving on U.S. Highway 6 near Nebraska Highway 33.

The woman, a student at Doane College, says the man was driving a dark vehicle that had a gold stripe on the side and an emergency light on the top. The man was wearing a black, police-style uniform. She told the sheriff's office that she agreed to let the "officer" search her vehicle, then he let her go. No arrest has been reported.

  2. If you suspect a "police officer" is a phoney, call 911 and talk to dispatch. Any real officer will understand and will soon understand the situation. Remember in Nebraska, State Troopers have blue uniforms and must wear their hat during stops, they also have a red patch on their shoulder with the State of Nebraska Capital Building on it.

Sheriffs and their deputies wear butternut colored uniforms, and by state statute, have white vehicles with gold stripes on the side.

Local municipalities have different colored uniforms, and vehicles, but will rarely stop a vehicle outside of their jurisdiction.

If you suspect a phoney officer, keep your door locked, and roll your window down just enough to communicate, but not allow entry. Tell the individual you suspect he is not an officer and are calling 911, and then tell the person to follow you to a well lighted area. ASK FOR IDENTIFICATION, or name and badge number, and jurisdiction.

A real officer will gladly do that.
