March 7 Chili Feed Will Support Next Generation Of Longhorns

Want to support the next generation of Longhorn athletes? Here is your opportunity.

A chili feed will be held on March 7, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Crete Eagles Club to help support the Little Longhorns Basketball League. According to organizers who contacted the Times, the league is aimed at helping Dorchester's elementary students -- grades 3 through 6 -- with the fundamentals of the game of basketball and prepares them ready to play at the junior high and high school levels.

Funds raised by this special event will help pay for upcoming tourneys, camps and uniforms.

Support Dorchester's future athletes. Plan to attend the chili feed on March 7!

  1. GREAT idea! We need to develop these kids in to some prime time players! Its been a little questionable as of late, having football players filling a basketball team. We need some basketball players playing the greatest game on earth baby! It starts at this young age when the whipper-snappers need to start their fundamentals! Its been some time since DHS has had that. Besides, Chilli is Awesome with a capital A!

  2. Can we put some of those players from the 1980s in diapers again?

  3. To the organizers of this event, how about setting out a jar for free-will donations at the upcoming alumni basketball/volleyball tourneys? I'll bet the donations would make it worth your while.

  6. To anonymous above --- If I recall correctly from last year, Eagles Club hosts the event for free and may even make their own contribution. Can't turn that down regardless of location.

  7. That is so awesome and thoughtful for the Eagles Club to do this. Eagles Club is also another place "Where Everybody Knows Your Name"
    I love it!

  8. Maybe someone or some business in Dorchester will offer to host the chili feed next year and it would be a major PLUS if they gave matching donations like the Eagle's Club did!

  9. I'll put $50 in a free will jar if they put it out.

I can't make the March 7 event. Sorry.

  10. If I've heard correctly, part of the charter of the Eagles organization is to promote youth activities and to help fund them, As a service organization they do a lot for many youth programs in the area, as well as other worthwhile causes in the area. The free will offering jars at the alumni event would be a great idea.
