A Glimpse At Future Health Care In Saline County?

A local Saline County doctor has sent the Dorchester Times this link on federal health care reform initiatives.

In the physician's e-mail to the Times, he said this story, conducted by ABC News, provides "a glimpse at what future health care may look like in our area should Congress pass health care legislation now being debated on Capitol Hill."

The Times typically reserves its space for local issues. However, due to the impact that Washington, D.C. has on the lives of our fellow citizens, and the fact this was sent to us by a local health care provider, we decided to post this important story. Click here.

  1. Since you opened the door, you need to post the text of the bills being considered so people can see what they ACTUALLY say and not what ABC "news" claims they say. The video was about a single-payer plan and does not resemble anything close to what is actually being considered in congress.

  2. Obama is as qualified to be president as he is to be CEO of a national company. God, is it 2012 yet????

  3. Politico's website reports:

It's safe to say Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), the only Republican who appears to be entertaining support for the Democratic health reform bills, is no fan of the House legislation.

"I do not know what world they live in," Snowe said in an interview. "But all I know is it is totally detached from the average person, the average business owner who is struggling to keep their doors open and to have that level of taxation is breathtaking in its dimensions. I just think it is so out of proportion with reality and with mainstream America that it is hard to believe, frankly."

On a day when the $1 trillion House bill picked up support from key interest groups -- which, in turn, prompted President Barack Obama to make a personal visit to the White House press room to tout the endorsements -- Snowe's words are a reminder of the dissent surrounding the bill.

  4. I am glad to see that there is another DC Husker. I don't necessarily agree with your viewpoint, but still happy to see another compatriot.

  5. Yep, I worked as an aide in both the House and Senate over a six year stint. I'm temporarily seeking shelter during the socialist reign. Confident things will get turned around as I work in the private sector.

  7. Senate Democrats have blocked a GOP attempt to require next year's census forms to ask people whether they are a U.S. citizen.

The proposal by Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter was aimed at excluding immigrants from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state. Critics said Vitter's plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive. They also said that it's long been settled law that the apportionment of congressional seats is determined by the number of people living in each state, regardless of whether they are citizens. A separate survey already collects the data.

The plan fell after a 60-39 procedural vote made it ineligible for attachment to a bill funding the census.

  8. Good luck on the private sector side. Jobs are scarce and rapidly going overseas or being converted to contract positions. If I had a crystal ball 25 years ago, I would have been entrepreneurial or gone into the trades. However, I don't think I have the aptitude for either one! By the way, if you came from the Hill you can always go into lobbying which is VERY lucrative.

  9. Here's a link to the bills. I don't know how old the ABC thing was, but it doesn't line up with what's in these.

I laugh at the person who calls the current administration "Socialism." Obviously you failed big time in your political science classes. It's a bit frightening that you are even working in our government. I know you have been conditioned by the pundits to believe it but we are by no means living in Soviet era Russia or Mao's China.

  11. Loch Ness Monster,

Rather than just taking the DC Huskers to task for the use of the word 'Socialism', you could describe how the current government's tendencies are NOT socialist?

The fact that this is not China or Russia is hardly evidence that the current administration is not socialist in it's beliefs.
