Tell Us What's On Your Mind, Dorchester

Once again, we are offering an open forum for all of you who want to say something related to issues unrelated to recent Times stories.

Because the Dorchester Times was designed to facilitate lively discussion and the free flow of ideas, we are obligated to publish a "general comments" post, in which any topic is fair game.

From the beginning, we said we value the feedback from our readers. This is the community's blog. So let us know your thoughts, your complaints, your concerns -- on any issue.

We are listening.

  1. You know I drive around Dorchester and I see alot of houses with junk in the yard. It is not just one or two houses like people like to cut down on here. There is around ten homes that just have junk in the yard. I always thought that bens iron was in the country not around town.

  3. Dweller, you need to post more pictures online of people who don't pick up their yards.

  4. I would like to see the times do like a weekly article of something on DHS amumni, where are they now. I think it would be really interesteing to see where some of the alumni have went, and what they are doing. I think it would be a good way to connect with the people that have moved away from Dorchester.

    We like that idea.

We encourage any and all willing DHS alumni to submit stories and photos detailing where they are now and their major accomplishments since high school.

Send stories and photos to Dorchester.Times@gmail.com

Thank you, Anonymous, for your great suggestion.

  6. mabye we should do a weekly feature on a person who lives in dorchester.

these are the people who make this town go and pay the taxes.

the alumni have moved away. they must not want anything to do with dorchester.

  7. just wondering why the blog wont post both sides of various issues.

If the comments are not what the blog wants they wont print it, even if they follow the blogs rules

  8. what ever happen to the stuff from the cornerstone from the old building at the school

  9. I find it completely laughable that certain people leave comments like the one two spots above.

Every comment I've written has been published on this blog, even when they were negative. Maybe the person leaving the comments needs to write more coherently. They should have paid more attention in school. :)

  10. Why can't someone spray the dandilions in the city park nad the boulevards? Go to other towns they don't look like that.

  11. Why can't there be more volunteers to maintain the medians on main street? Why can't people take initiative and do SOME things for themselves? Why must we all look to the government (local, county, state, federal) to do things for ourselves why we stuff our faces with processed food and sit in front of the TV all day? Just wondering.

  13. The person who says the Alumni that moved away don't want anything to do with Dorchester is wrong. Some of the kids went on to school to beter themselves. If they all stayed where would they work You have to go where the work is. There are not very many jobs available in this area.

  14. I agree, you walk or drive through town and it looks trashy. How many hours are spent grading the gravel roads here in town to only have them look and drive worse than before they touched them... we need to get or paid guys out and about, what are they doing !?!?! I am sure they are busy considering there are only two and they are both getting up there in age. Maybe we need to hire some part-time summer helpers to spray weeds, trim and mow things so they "look nice" and to take care of some of these seasonal issues???

  15. Why isn't there anything written about the new snack shack. It is very nice, need to have Dorchester Times up there and write about it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just wanted to thank the people who are building the snack shack. I know numerous volunteer hours have gone into the work so far. It looks wonderful!! Whenever we have doubts about what is going on in the world, we can think of the ways people are bettering the world. Thank you again.

  17. Anonymous May 5, 2009 8:04 AM,
The corner stone is waiting to be installed in the new bell monument. The contents of the capsule are being kept safe while the school decides where they will be placed. Whether that is in the new monument, kept at the school, with the historical society, or someplace else. The school has to decide the best place for the contents while respecting the wishes of the past board members that were stated in the time capsule.

  18. After reading post May 6, 2009 11:40 AM, I can see that our "positive thinker" has returned. However, we need you to RETURN to Dorchester and bring your good karma.

  19. In order to hire summer help you have to have applicants and from what I understand there were NO young applicants.

  20. As a Dorchester alum (living out of state) reading the comments that "we move on and don't want anything to do with Dorchester anymore", I continually am amazed at ignorance of this comment.

What do you expect? Do you want everyone that has ever graduated from Dorchester settle here or you will bad mouth them? I think you are actually a little envious of those who have left to experience other people and cultures...remember not liking kolaches doesn't make someone communist.

People move on because of opportunities and the challenge of "making" it without the help of mom and dad bank account or your family name.

Get your head out of the sand. And be glad that everyone hasn't stayed in Dorchester. People sometimes need to move on to keep their sanity. You might want to get a newspaper.....it's a big world out there.

  21. YOU have got to be kidding. How can the comment on the streets and the city workers be printed??

To me this is against the BLOG rules.

Once again, hammer on the city guys

give them a break, age has nothing to do with it and quit printing this stuff if you aint going to print everything.

Maybe the county workers or the state workers should be treated the same way.

They are being paid with tax dollars and I can see plenty of places for improvements there too

  22. 'Anonymous' (10:31 p.m., May 6):

No violation of blog rules has occurred.

For the record, we have published all but two comments of the last 52 submitted. We have been keeping track.

The two rejected comments were due to the mention, by name, of a specific individual.

If you feel unfair criticism has been leveled, we encourage you to leave a comment -- as you have -- or submit a signed letter to the Times at Dorchester.Times@gmail.com.

Thank you for reading the Times.

  23. I think the town guys do a great job it's a big job. How would you like to have someone judge you at your job day in and day out? Get a grip!

    ReplyDelete
  24. to the dweller

letting people make comments about the village workers IS unfair.

In a village this size, everyone knows who these comments are directed at. Give me a break.

It is nice that you have a blog to hide behind.

Step forth and tell us what you can do so we can critique your work.

If it is like the blog it is probably below average.
How does that feel, someone taking cheap shots at you.

interesting to see if this one gets printed.

    LOL

    Thanks for printing my message

  25. Really. I never remember seeing a notice of hire for the village of Dorchester for seasonal part-time work... Wonder where the ad ran??? I am not talking just high school help but anyone that might have time during the summer months. With such a bad ecconomy you think you would have some people.
As far as the city guys go, judging from the comments you must not ever have to drive the gravel roads here in town.... and the craters that are in the paved streets are going to cause an accident.
I am glad that the above mentioned comment was posted,(glad you don't work with the blog :->) this is what a democracy is... there were no names and it was stating a fact. No swear words or anything like that. Some of you only want to hear sweet nothings on here about everyone and our town, but the truth is there is a LOT of work that needs to be done here to make it appeal to new families ! ! !
It looks like Ben's place is going to class the east side of the downtown area up... Good luck and can't wait to be able to support you. :-)
Yes there is always room for improvment no matter what you might be talking about...

  26. Most of us do have our work judged everyday by people called bosses. Who keep's the people that work for the city in check and makes sure that they get the pat's on the back or told that they need to step it up a bit ? It seems that once your in your able to do what ever till you quit or... Like the comments above, all one has to do is drive around to know just what they are talking about !

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think it would be a shame if the blog revealed their identity. Once they do this blog would go down. It is nice to have a place that gives us news, allows ANYONE to leave a comment, and is free. I hope they never tell us who they are ! ! ! ! ! ! Thanks blog team :-)

  28. WE THE TAX PAYERS ARE THE BOSSES AND WE WILL BE THE JUDGE OF THE CITY WORKERS. CAN'T HANDLE IT? GET A DIFFERENT JOB.

  29. Anonymous at 5:47 has some serious self-esteem problems.

He/she wants to talk about quality of work. Really? If the quality of writing and grammatical content are any indication, I'm guessing that person is unemployed.

  30. to Fulton street.

get off your high horse. not bad for never completing high school. the 4th grade was the best three years of my life.

    what do you do??

you always make your cheap, simple little comments and then go hide behind your little blog name.

If anyone wants my opinion, i will be at the bar tomorrow night at 8. I will tell you all what i think

    thanks a ton

  31. county and state roads are just as bad and more money is spent on these.

have you ever been to a county meeting and complained?

what is the state doing with the piece of property to the west of the state shop?? Prime residential ground used for what?
Used for the state to mow and waste tax dollars on.

sell it and build 4 houses, more tax dollars to the village

  32. BOSS MAN,
You elect the "bosses", and let's hope they help their employees before they JUDGE them. I would say a judgement on an employee may also be judgement on the boss. A BOSS WHO USES ALL CAPS AND TELLS THE EMPLOYEES TO GET OVER IT, CAN'T BE TOO FUN TO WORK FOR. Just because people work in civil service, does not mean that you are free to talk about them in an undignified manner.

If you are going to give criticism give it in a dignified manner. If you don't know what dignified means look it up. If you can't get a civil service job, get over it!!

  33. perhaps just an area with links to other city's town websites that are similar to this
if there ARE websites similar to this in Friend, Wilber, Crete, or Milford

  34. to the person that left the blog on May 6, 2009 10:31 PM.. Are you serious.. I have to say the county guys do a lot more work than the town guys.. Country road are better than town roads for sure.. and they are out all night getting road clear when it snows don't see the town guys doing that until they are ready to are until it starts to melt.. Get your facts straight.. Maybe you should add yourself as their side kick..

  35. The town did have an add for a seasonal worker in the crete paper. I answered the add at the town office but got turned down because I had a full-time job. I offered my services for the weekends and a day during the week but they said no. With my line of work I am more than qualified to spray weeds and mow the park and the cemetary and grade the roads
