DHS Takes First At Shickley

Congratulations go out to the DHS Lady Longhorns, who rode into the Shickley Triangular and came away with a first place finish on Tuesday.

DHS defeated McCool Junction 20-25, 25-14, 25-17 in the first contest. Then in a face-off with hometown Shickley, Dorchester defeated SHS in two straight -- 25-20, 31-29 -- to take the first place trophy.

The Lady Longhorns, now 10-9 on the season, will be in action again tomorrow (Oct. 16) when they take on Class D-2's No. 2 Clay Center (18-0) at home in a 7 p.m. match-up. (UPDATE: 10/16, 11 p.m. -- In one of the Lady Longhorn's best performances yet of the 2008 season, undefeated Clay Center nipped DHS Thursday evening in five hard-fought sets, 25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-8. The Longhorns must now quickly get ready for the CRC Tournament at York on Saturday.)

  1. The Lady Longhorns looked pretty good last night. Karmen Lawver had her "jack-hammer" on fire and a few opponents felt her fire! The underclasswomen stepped up and performed well, also. I finally think the girls are coming together and will be a threat to Clay Center tomorrow night. Good Luck ladies!!!

  3. Maybe this will make the Crete News since it was in Shickley?!? The only time Dorchester gets mentioned anymore in that paper is when we play Exeter, Friend (both which have a paper) or Meridian.

  6. In the conference with Clay Center. It is going to be a hard game to win and your district is a hard district.

  7. Meridian in the sub district is 14-3 and very well coached. The other teams are not very good.

  8. Regarding the comment at 8:25 pm, that's wrong as recycled toilet paper. Clay Center is Class D-2. They can't be in the same district as DHS.

  9. To the comment made at 9:48, I didn't say Clay Center was in your district, said in my conference. Meridian is in your sub-district. Reading carefully is important to get the facts right. Former DHS alumni here, and know vball real well. Just stating the facts.

  10. So the girls looked pretty good tonight. They played Clay Center in 5 sets. The 4th set was a little rough, DHS was up by about 8 and lost the set. I think in the 5th set, they were still thinking about the 4th set loss and you could just see they were tired and down. All in all I think the girls looked good and probably played the best I've seen them play all season, although, they did play well against Shickley also. Good luck vs. McCool on Saturday at CRC!

  11. Clay Center was not undefeated. They lost to Exeter Milligan on Tuesday night. Exeter Milligan beat Dorchester a week ago on Thursday. The girls did play well last night. They need to continue to improve if they want to make it out of a tough district.

    Thank you for the correction.

We derived our information from the Nebraska School Activities Association page, which apparently had not yet been updated as of early Wednesday morning.

  13. In regard to "parent said..." comment on October 15, perhaps you need to ask the paper manager why it hasn't been in. BJ, the guy who has been covering all of our schools, has been doing so from a wheelchair and/or crutches all this fall season and I am certain he is shurly trying as hard as he can to get things in, but he also needs the cooperation of the guys who run the paper. He's told me before that some stories and photos make it and some don't and he doesn't know the reason why. Keep fighting, Longhorns!

  14. BJ is a great reporter! I wish he operated his own Saline County newspaper.
