Baseball/Softball Sign-Up On April 3

Soon, the cry of "Play ball!" will echo throughout the village.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Dorchester Baseball & Softball Parents Association will hold a meeting this Thursday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorchester Fire Hall.

It is important that all parents with children who want to play on the diamond attend this meeting.

The meeting agenda will include player sign-up, discussion of finances, committee voting. Also discussed will be maintenance and improvement plans for the ball field and dugouts.

The Parents Association will be accepting applications for all coaching positions. All ideas and concerns are welcomed and encouraged.

Those with questions should call on of the following Parents Association representatives: Corbey Aaberg at 826-7046; Lisa Wells at 826-0774; or Brian Pribyl at 826-3045.

  1. Maybe we can get Thad Weber of Friend to come and give a talk to the kids. For those who don't know, Thad is a starting pitcher for Nebraska. The Huskers are whipping up on pre-season Big 12 pick Texas. Thad has 5 wins and just threw a shut out against Texas. Back in the day, Dorchester used to be one of the few teams who gave him trouble.

  2. Will ball park improvements be discussed at this meeting? Will a village official be present?

We should have citizens of the town be willing to donate supplies and time/labor but it will take some leadership from the village to insure year after year success.

  3. you didnt want the city to be involved in the operation of the ball program, now you want money.

The city has always supported the ball program.

sometimes you cant have it both ways

  4. A village Member will not be present. 2 years ago the village handed over the money and decision making to the parents. Which is not all bad. We WILL be discussing improvments to the field. We will be calling on as many people as possible to help us with this task. We have weeds to deal with, rocks in the field, dugouts to be rebuilt ect. We will post on the blog when we are ready to have a volunteer clean up day at the field.
