Longhorns Squeak By Meridian, 14-12

The Longhorns improved their record to 2-1 in the third week of high school gridiron action as they squeaked by the Meridian Mustangs on Friday night. A strong showing of orange-and-black clad fans gathered at Nerud Field to watch the DHS earn their second victory of the year.

The final tally: Dorchester 14, Meridian 12.

Week four will take the Longhorns to Pawnee County, where DHS will face Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer in Humboldt. The Times predicts another Longhorn win: DHS 14, HTRS 8.

In volleyball action, the Lady Longhorns saw action earlier this week, falling to Friend on Tuesday evening. DHS plays in the Shickley volleyball tournament tomorrow (Sept. 15).

Good luck to both Longhorn teams as they enter the heart of their seasons.

  1. Who decides what the student uniforms look like. Who on earth decided young girls need to wear those tacky shorts. I've heard them referred to as "big bun huggers", "Hooter" shorts and etc.
I've read the school dress code,
thoses shorts definetly break the dress code. We need to teach our daughters to respect their bodies not flaunt them even more.

  3. The High School football teams looked good. On the other hand the Junior High team looked like someone rummaged through the garbage dumpster for their uniforms. Some of the kids have to tape their pants on so that they don't fall off. Maybe a fundraiser is needed to buy the junior high team new uniforms.

  4. Lets get the jr.high football team some pants that will stay up.
Then we can get the volleyball team some shorts so they can cover up.

  5. Cry me a river. The jr high has ALWAYS got the hand me downs from the high schoolers. It was that was in the "good old days" too, like 22 years ago when I was in school.

  6. That is not true.

5 years ago we had new black pants that were the same as the high school pants.

We got to wear them in our games.

  8. The volleyball shorts are like that for a reason. They need to be tight so that when the girls are going up to block they don't get caught up in the net. They are very practical shorts. It would be stupid to wear big baggy shorts when playing volleyball. Think about it.

  9. to cj

we can afford to spend 4 million on a school, but cant spend 500 on new pants.

The way the kids look is as important as the way the school looks.

  10. Hey anonymous ........ the school comes before sports .......... the kids need the school ....... worse comes to worse, the kids can do fundraisers for the uniforms ......... but you are exagerating, I know ...... typical, typical........

  11. to cynical richard

get off the fund raising kick

i bet the when your kids went to school they never had to have fund raisers to purchase athletic equipment.

This is a public educational setting funded by tax dollars. If you cant provide the kids with the proper equipment and uniforms, then drop the progam.

These kids looked terrible. a team with at least 4 different color pants........give me a break

you have done nothing but complain since this thing started.

  13. I think that cynical richard, and bob are one person, that just wants to stir up trouble. Since the school bond went threw, he needs to complain about something, aka/ T.S. Please find something better to do, them to complain about everything that is written on this blog.

  14. The volleyball shorts do not need to be so.... tight and in most cases so..... short. They are not practicle. They look terrible.
They do break the dress code. I have never seen anyone jump high enough to get caught in the net.
Exeter / Milligan girls go to state every year and they do not have thoses shorts.

  15. Exter/ Milligan girls volleyball team went to state last year.
They do not have the hooter shorts.
They have very tall girls / who have never gotten caught in the net.

  16. For years, the Booster Club held successful fundraisers (vb and bb tourneys)that brought in quite a bit of money. That money was used to purchase items used for the athletic program. Maybe some of that money can be used to buy some uniforms for the jr. high fb team. The vb & bb uniforms don't take the kind of abuse that fb uniforms do - so buying new fb pants makes sense.

As far as the vb shorts issue - sit down sometime and watch some college vb. That's what teams wear. Our girls are wearing those type of shorts for a reason - to avoid getting into the net. The vb girls have been wearing those "bun huggers" for a long time.

  17. aBecause college girls wear them doesn't make i necessary for high
school girls to wear them. The college girls look bad in them too.
Discretion is a thing of the past I guess. I think if your gona have a dress code it should be enforced accross the board, in gym class,
    especially sports, when spectators
are present. I won't go to the volleyball games , it offends me.

  18. If the shorts offend you, then thats fine. Don't go. Let something as stupid as that stop you from going and supporting your hometome team. What a great person you are. Grow up.

  19. I can not state my name, out of state location or job. I have been a visitor of this blog sense it started. I investigate and uncover some not so great web sites. There is a certain type of offensive use of photos of high school and jr high girls in the shorts that have been discussed. I think some of the comments are out of concern for the girls and not out of meaness.
